I’m excited about this for several reasons. One is that it’s a field trip. My kids have wanted to go on field trips, but money is tight for us these days, so field trips have been rather limited. This is one that we can actually afford.
Another reason is that it’s getting us out of the house and interacting with other people. As much as I love being at home, working on my next novel or whatever, getting out there and interacting with others is helpful too.
Also, I love art. Anything artistic thrills me. Paintings, photographs, sketches,, writing – if it’s artistic and/or creative, I’m there. And I think this is a great opportunity for my kids. My oldest son, in particular. He’s already exhibited an incredible amount of talent when it comes to drawing. I think this will be a great experience for him. My youngest seems to be drawn more to video and photography, but he also hasn’t done a whole lot to explore his artistic talents so far. He will.
So this week, in light of our outing, I’m going to try to focus a large portion of our learning this week on art. We’ll learn a little about the various kinds of art, different artists, and play around with a few different styles of art to see what they think of them.
And it appears that most of the week will be spent searching for my oldest son’s Kindle. He managed to lose it three weeks ago, and it still hasn’t turned up. I strongly suspect he hasn’t looked all that hard, but if he had his way, it probably never would turn up.
