We are taking a break for Thanksgiving this week. Well, not completely, I suppose. We’re still going to do reading, and there’s a JFK special that was on Friday night that I recorded that we’ll watch. But aside from that, we’re not doing any school stuff this week.
This is what I love about homeschooling. The public school kids around here have school today and tomorrow. We, on the other hand, have the freedom to take these two days off. Which is good, because we have plenty to do later this week in preparation for Thursday, and it’s nice to take some time to relax before we get to work.
I got all my Christmas shopping for C and J done yesterday. It took several hours, because I really wanted to make sure that they would be happy with what I got them, but I’m very pleased. I think they will love everything, and I can’t wait to see their faces on Christmas morning.
I have, however, concluded that it’s time we do a bit more talking and some up close and personal interacting with those less fortunate. My kids have always been slightly spoiled, but this year they’ve been quite a bit worse. They actually asked me the other day, if they didn’t get something from their list that they really wanted, could they take money from their piggy bank and go buy it for themselves on Christmas Day. I was really quite upset with them for that. I know they’re children, but that was so selfish and ungrateful sounding that I just couldn’t stand it. So we’re going to be taking a really good, hard look at how hard some people have it, and hopefully, they will be able to then appreciate just how good they have it.
For now, though, I’m just going to be thankful that I can relax this week.
